What Did You Do All Day?

how to be a stay at home mom

A man came home from work and found his 3 children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and candy wrappers strewn around garden.

The door of his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house…there was no sign of the dog and walking in the front door, he found an even bigger mess.

A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, in the front room the TV was blasting the cartoon channel loudly and everywhere he looked toys and various times of clothing were laying over every piece of furniture.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, next to broken crayons and a pile of colored paper and crayon books and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over more toys and more piles of clothes, frantically looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened to her.

When he reached the top of stairs he heard a faint trickle of water and made his way to the bathroom door as fast as he could.  Terrified of what he may see on the other side, he opened the door slowly finding only wet towels, scummy soap and more toys on the bathroom floor.  Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap in the toilet and beside it and toothpaste had been smeared on the counter, cabinet walls and the floor.

Desperately he rushed to the bedroom, flew open the door and there on the other side was his wife laying in bed.  Curled up in her favorite comfy pajamas, reading a novel she looked up at him and smiled,  “Hi!  How was your day?”

Mouth wide open, he couldn’t speak.  Just looking at her for a moment he finally said,  “I…I…I….What…Are you okay?!  What’s going on…?  What happened here today?”

Reaching across to the night stand table to set down her book, she arched her back like a cat getting up from it’s nap and said, “You know how every day you come home from work and say, “What in the world do you do all day?'”

”Yes,” he replied still worried.

“Well, today I didn’t do it.”

I wish I could end on something really funny or insightful, but…well…there’s really nothing more to say!

Except, if you work full time and someone else takes care of your house and your kids….whatever you pay them, it’s not enough.
