“Let’s go to the Hook & Plow…”
I hesitated. Maybe we weren’t going to dinner but to a….well…what was a hook and a plow?
Perhaps it was my facial expression that had my friend quickly say, “To EAT…”
Oh…I quickly discovered The Hook & Plow is a restaurant that serves amazing food. Amazing meaning, good, healthy, fresh, organic food. In a clean, white, outside setting making you feel like you are one with the earth….good in your tummy…healthy in your life. And that was even before I had a glass of wine!!
Hook and Plow is one of a kind. Opened by beautiful blonde twins (not like it matters but…it’s a benefit!) Lauren & Lisa who grew up in Hawaii and won basketball scholarships to college in St. Louis. Immediately after college the two relocated to their dad’s hometown of Hermosa Beach, CA.
Health conscious and active, they were unsatisfied with the offerings from restaurants in town and wanted a place to eat that was good, healthy and fun. So they found a couple helpers (Brie & Brian and Chef Alex) and created a restaurant they are proud of!
Two things I love:
1)Every time you visit this place one of the owners will be on site. YEAH!!!!
2) Restaurant pride. The owners take pride in each and everyone of their items…like they weren’t thrown together by a budget or a chef using his leftovers. The Hook & Plow’s food is crafted carefully and made with love.
3) Local everything! 90% of the food they server is organic and comes from California. 80% of their beer is local. And all their sauces are made from scratch!!
4) Their kids menu. At the moment the kids menu lists: Chicken Strips (hand-made), Fish Sticks and CheeseBurger.
Here is what I ate that I loved (I didn’t eat ALL of it…I did bring a friend – see if you can find the hot blonde chick “Where’s Waldo” in the photos!):
Braised Short Ribs (I’m all about the sauce…this sauce is crazy good…tastes like grandma cooked it for days).
Scallops & Pork Belly – sounds crazy weird, but it was outstanding.
We also had some apps which were beyond anything I’ve had before!
Watermelon & Heirloom Tomato, Roasted Peach & Burrata Salad & Ahi Poke
To drink we had a Strawberry Basil & Lemonade of the day.
